Season

The signature summit of the Renon, at 2,260 metres. A gondola takes you to Cima Lago Nero and an hour and a half later you are on top, with Sciliar, Catinaccio, Sassolungo and Marmolada in a single view.

The Corno del Renon, at 2,260 metres, is the signature summit of the plateau. From the top the panorama runs full circle: Sciliar, Catinaccio, Sassolungo, Sella and Marmolada, and on clear days the view reaches as far as the Ortles Alps.

The height is gained by gondola to the Cima Lago Nero top station, the Schwarzseespitze: from there it is four kilometres and two hundred metres of ascent, so the summit is within reach of anyone who walks regularly.

Highlights

The panorama from the summit

It is one of the few places in South Tyrol from which you can see the four main Dolomite groups at the same time. It is worth carrying something to drink and staying on top longer than planned.

Getting there

The Corno del Renon gondola takes you to Cima Lago Nero, at around 2,070 metres. The bottom station is reached from Soprabolzano or Collalbo. If you are staying nearby, a car transfer from your hotel to the trailhead is included.

Good to know

The gondola runs to seasonal timetables: check the last ride down before setting off.

There is nowhere to eat on the summit: water and food have to be carried.

Routes may change according to trail and weather conditions.

The route, stage by stage

  1. Up to Cima Lago Nero Gondola

The gondola takes you to around 2,070 metres: the walk begins here, with the summit already in view.

  2. The path to the summit Waymarked path

A high-level path on good ground, at a steady gradient with an open panorama the whole way.

  3. On the summit of the Corno del Renon 2,260 m

Summit at 2,260 metres, with a full-circle panorama. The return follows the same route.

Stops and refreshments
