A short but genuine summit: from Passo Oclini it takes little more than an hour to reach the Corno Bianco at 2,317 metres, through meadows and mountain pine. From the top, Latemar and Catinaccio in a single view.
The Corno Bianco is a short but genuine summit: you set out from Passo Oclini, wedged between the Corno Bianco and the Corno Nero, and in a little over an hour you are on top at 2,317 metres. The height gain is modest, but the last stretch changes character — the grass gives way to scree and the path narrows.
It is the right hike for anyone who wants the satisfaction of a summit without committing a whole day, and it is also one of the best places from which to see the Latemar and the Catinaccio, both in a single view.
Highlights
The summit
The view from the top runs full circle: the Latemar to the west, the Catinaccio to the north and, on clear days, the crown of the Dolomites as far as the Sciliar.
The mountain pines of Passo Oclini
The first part of the route crosses a belt of low, dense mountain pine typical of this altitude. It is also the stretch where, early in the morning, you are most likely to come across the wildlife of the pass.
Getting there
The starting point is the car park at Passo Oclini, at 1,989 metres, reached by road from the Val d'Ega or the Val di Fiemme. If you are staying nearby, a car transfer from your hotel to the trailhead is included.
Good to know
The route is graded E, with some slightly exposed grassy sections in the upper part: proper hiking footwear and a sure step are needed.
The final scree is slippery after rain: with wet ground the ascent is assessed case by case.
Routes may change according to trail and weather conditions.
